+20 Extremely Important Life Lessons Quran Taught Me

Religion has been and still is a great source of knowledge and wisdom. There are many lessons you can learn from religion the following are some examples :

1. Always smile to people and speak kindly to them

« And Speak to people Kindly. » (Quan 2:83)

2. Do not spread rumors about others or talk bad about someone behind their backs

« O believers! Avoid many suspicions, ˹for˺ indeed, some suspicions are sinful. And do not spy, nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of their dead brother? You would despise that! And fear Allah. Surely Allah is ˹the˺ Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful. » (Quan 49:12)

3. Don’t compare yourself to others

« And do not crave what Allah has given some of you over others. Men will be rewarded according to their deeds and women ˹equally˺ according to theirs. Rather, ask Allah for His bounties. Surely Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things. » (Quran 4:32)

4. Treat people with mercy and kindness

« Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinsfolk orphans, Al-Masakin (the poor), the neighbor who is near of kin, the neighbor who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allah does not like such as are proud and boastful. » (Quran, 4:36)

5. Even the way you help and give charity matters

« If you give alms openly, it is well, and if you hide it and give it to the poor, it is better for you; and this will do away with some of your evil deeds; and Allah is aware of what you do. » (Quran, 2 :271)

« Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is free of need and Forbearing. » (Quran, 2:263)

6. Gratitude is the way to abundance

« And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor] » (Quran, 14:7)

7. Take care of your parents especially when they’re old and need you most

« And do good to your parents. If either of them or both of them reach old age with thee, say not to them, fie; nor chide them; and speak to them a generous word. And make thyself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say, My Lord! Have mercy on them as they brought me up when I was little » (Quran 17 : 23, 24).

« And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth » (Quran, 46 :15)

8. Don’t be arrogant with people

« And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boaster. »(Quran31 :18)

9. Respect others’ privacy

« Do not enter houses other than your own houses without permission and saluting their inmates . . . . . and if it is said to you, Go back, then go back » (Quran 24 : 27, 28).

10. Don’t wait for others to say "thank you"

« We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks » (Quran , 76:9)

11. Don’t abort for fear of poverty

« And do not kill your children for fear of poverty; We give them sustenance and yourselves (too); surely to kill them is a great wrong. » (Quran, 17 :31)

« …and do not slay your children for (fear of) poverty-- We provide for you and for them.. » (Quran, 6 :151)

12. Great others better than they greeted you

« And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet with a better (greeting) than it or return it; surely Allah takes account of all things. » (Quran, 4 :86)

13. Don’t speak loudly

« And pursue the right course in your going about and lower your voice; surely the most hateful of voices is braying of the asses. » (Quran, 31 :19)

14. Be patient when the one you’ve loaned isn’t able to return your money

« And if (the debtor) is in straitness, then let there be postponement until (he is in) ease; and that you remit (it) as alms is better for you, if you knew. » (Quran, 2 :280)

« O you who believe! when you deal with each other in contracting a debt for a fixed time, then write it down; and let a scribe write it down between you with fairness; and the scribe should not refuse to write as Allah has taught him, so he should write; and let him who owes the debt dictate, and he should be careful of (his duty to) Allah, his Lord, and not diminish anything from it; but if he who owes the debt is unsound in understanding, or weak, or (if) he is not able to dictate himself, let his guardian dictate with fairness; … » (Quran, 2 :282)

15. Live with a positive mindset

« … and despair not of Allah's mercy; surely none despairs of Allah's mercy except the unbelieving people. » (Quran, 12 :87)

16. Be fair when you trade

« And give full measure when you measure out, and weigh with a true balance; this is fair and better in the end. » (Quran, 17 :35)

17. And make sure your money is well-earned

« O you who believe! do not devour usury, making it double and redouble, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, that you may be successful. » (Quran, 3 :130)

« And whatever you lay out as usury, so that it may increase in the property of men, it shall not increase with Allah; and whatever you give in charity, desiring Allah's pleasure-- it is these (persons) that shall get manifold. » (Quran, 30 :39)

« Those who swallow down usury cannot arise except as one whom Shaitan has prostrated by (his) touch does rise. That is because they say, trading is only like usury; and Allah has allowed trading and forbidden usury. To whomsoever then the admonition has come from his Lord, then he desists, he shall have what has already passed, and his affair is in the hands of Allah; and whoever returns (to it)-- these arc the inmates of the fire; they shall abide in it. » (Quran, 2 :275)

18. Forgive

« And whoever is patient and forgiving, these most surely are actions due to courage. » (Quran, 42 :43)

19. Avoid alcohol and gambling

« They ask you about intoxicants and games of chance. Say: In both of them there is a great sin and means of profit for men, and their sin is greater than their profit. » (Quran, 2 :219)

20. Be truthful and honest

« And do not mix up the truth with the falsehood, nor hide the truth while you know (it). » (Quran, 2 :42)

21. Always seek knowledge

« and say: O my Lord ! increase me in knowledge. » (Quran, 20 :114)

In the end, the goal isn’t to make people convert but to use the holy books as a source of knowledge for they’re full of wisdom that is needed no matter how advanced human beings are becoming.
« There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in the Shaitan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on the firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. » (Quran, 2 :256)
